The Our Lady of Mt Carmel statue housed in the Pontifical Shrine to Our Lady of Mt Carmel, has been returned to her place above the alter, after an eight month physical and artistic restoration.
After 132 years, the life size statue and its garments were showing the effects of age. Following a fundraising effort by the Church and the Holy Name Society, a group of specially selected artists, designers, wig makers and hairdressers began the beautiful and painstaking restoration, which lasted for 8 months.
The statue was returned to the alter during a special mass on October 24.
