NOTE: The Columbus Day Parade has a special meaning to East Harlem for on October 12, 1929, New York City businessman and Italian immigrant Generoso Pope led the First Columbus Day Parade from East Harlem down to Columbus Circle. Generoso Pope was also a founder of the Columbus Citizens Committee which produces the parade every year..
